Let’s bring it back to our Stages of Change now for the grand finale. People in the fifth stage of change typically
- Have been practicing new behaviors for six months or more
- Consider the new behavior part of their lifestyle
- View lapses as temporary setbacks and know how to implement coping strategies
At this point, healthy behaviors have become a part of your lifestyle. In this stage, boredom and complacency may be your worst enemies. Try new approaches to help maintain your healthy habits: Participate in a group fitness class, choose a new food or recipe each month, or expand your cultural horizons by attending a play or an art show.
Continue to talk to others about the changes you have made. Start a support group; schedule a follow-up fitness assessment; meet with a registered dietitian; enjoy your new, healthier body!
